Objective: This course will provide each student with the opportunity to become exceptionally familiar with a weight training and conditioning program. The learner will know basic, intermediate, and advanced principles in the techniques and skills of weight training and conditioning by performing them in a controlled atmosphere, through written material, and through other available media. Learning will occur through active participation in a safe and structured environment. This class will be a progressive course. Basic skills and movements will build the foundation for more complex and advanced training techniques. Speed, agility and quickness, plyometrics, and Olympic-style training (triple extension) will be emphasized.

Grading Policy:
Each 6 weeks the student will start with a 100. The three 6 weeks are averaged together.
Participation……………..…..80%
Skills Tests………………..…10%
Written Work (tests, etc)…….10%
Not dressing out and no participation…..Minus 10 points
Three absences (excused or unexcused) per six weeks will be allowed without a deduction of points. Every absence after three will be a dress cut (10 points) unless assigned work is done for each day missed.
This does not include ISS/OSS. Make-up work is assigned for ISS/OSS. Failure to turn in assigned work will result in a dress cut (10 points) per day of ISS/OSS.

Participation is mandatory and will be strictly enforced.
This class is not recess and a regimented system will be carried out.

Proper Attire:
Proper attire for this class consists of properly fitting clothes that are not so tight as to restrict freedom of movement and not so loose that they cause safety issues. All jewelry must be either removed or placed properly so as not to cause a safety issue. When in doubt as to what jewelry may interfere, leave it in your locked locker. Again, this class emphasizes movement and activity. Athletic shoes are a must. No boots, sandals, flip-flops, or dress shoes will be allowed. School dress codes will be followed and furthermore, it is the coach’s discretion as to what attire follows policy and what is allowed.

Class Policies:
Any students with disabilities that the coach needs to be aware of must be mentioned to insure the safety of the student. Report any such concerns with your coach or the respective administrative staff.
All students are required to bring their own locks. Locks must be a combination lock in order for us to record the combination. No key locks will be allowed and all lockers are subject to search and can be cut off at the coach’s discretion.
No equipment from home will be allowed in class.
No music players or cell-phones are allowed during class.

KENNESAW MOUNTIAN WEIGHT TRAINING

WELCOME!

Weight Training is a wonderful class offered at Kennesaw Mountain that is unlike any other offered- even other physical education classes. The biggest point that coaches try to convey to the students is that to reap the rewards of this class you must use discipline and self-control and the easiest way out is not always the best route taken.
This class is for students that want to achieve not only in athletics, but to learn how to workout in order to take life lessons with them about how to live a healthy lifestyle. Weight training is a key component to physical fitness. So, yes this class is for athletes; however, this class is also for young men and women that enjoy strength gains, cardiovascular endurance, speed and agility improvement, body control, balance, flexibility and confidence- just to name a few! This class is definitely what you make of it and opportunities for improvement are endless.
“If you train hard you’ll be hard and you’ll be hard to beat!” Hershel Walker said it best and we believe in hard work at Kennesaw Mountain. Hard to beat doesn’t mean just in sports, but the challenges of weight training prepare you to face life’s obstacles with diligence and tenacity. Finally, the website and blog is for students, parents, and any other visitor interested in the Mustang way and we hope you enjoy what you see.
